Laurie’s Life Right Now

23 weeks April 7, 2006

We are now 23 weeks pregnant, over half way there.  My belly has been doing a lot of growing since we reached 20weeks.  I think that it even grows overnight.  We have spent some time getting the room ready too. It is all painted the color of Whinnie the Pooh’s tummy and we have a crib.
We have been seeing the doctor regularly and had a 2nd ultrasound on March 29.  Everything with the baby is well and he/she is the right size for the August 2nd due date.  I was very relieved.  He/she is very active these days especially when it is time for a rest or I am hungry.  Work is going well, but I sure get tired fast -the busy days really wear me down.  So far I am going to start my Mat. leave in the middle of July.

I am getting really excited to meet this baby but I can wait until August.

Update April 7, 2006

Well I guess it has been a while since I have written here.  I did get a special request to update my page though so thanks for reading everyone.  Well let me think what has happened?  . .

While we were in Calgary, on our way to BC.  I felt the baby move for the forst time.  It was a very large and unmistakable movement.  I had felt little flutters but wasn't always sure.  

We made it out to BC for about a week, apparently we picked the rainest year to go.  We had 2 nice days but saw lots of nice scenery, ate lots of good food, and had a nice visit with Mom and Dad in their oasis.  It was a nice get away.  Tracey and Richard babysat Sadie and Preston – they had a nice vacation too.

We came home to more snow and have been waiting for spring so we can do some yard work.

16 weeks February 18, 2006

Yahoo!  The baby and I are at 16 weeks.  I have been feeling really good lately.  Except for tired but apparently that is what it will be like now untill the baby moves out of the house.  We have begun some preparations for the baby – we started getting his or her room ready.  Fun stuff.  I have gone for another Dr.’s appointment and all was well.  I have gained like one pound so far but I imagine that will change soon as I am starting to get my appetite back. 

I have to work a lot in the next 2 weeks but after that we are heading to Calgary and then out to B.C. to visit Mom and Dad.  I am looking forward to that.  I am eager for an “away vacation”.

14 wks February 6, 2006

Well we have finally hit the 14 week mark.  This was so great for me because this is when I will begin to feel great again.  That ‘s what everyone tells me anyway.  Well so far it seems to be true.  Each day is getting better and better.  I even went for a walk tonight and it fet good.  I haven’t been for a walk in months.  So I am hoping for smooth sailing and energy for the next little while.

The ultrasound February 2, 2006

So we went for our first ultrasound on January 23rd.  I was 12 wks and 5 days at this time.  It was very exciting.  We got to see the little guy or girl move around and suck his thumb.  He was still too little to tell if he is male or female.  Yes!! we are planning to find out.  Many people are very disappointed with me – but I want to know.   Anyway everything was well. 

How did we tell our parents? January 18, 2006

Well that was as fun as telling Kelly.  We told them christmas morning.  We made special gifts for each of our parents.  (Kelly’s mom and dad join us for christmas morning every year.)  We saved these gifts until very last and then gave them to our moms to open with our dads.  They opened the package to find little baby socks tucked in with a suether.  My mom got it right away and began crying.  Carol didn’t believe it and kept saying “I don’t get it!”  It was fun.  It was even more special because Tracey and Richard and Todd and Angie were there with us.

How am I feeling? January 17, 2006

That seems to be the first question that everyone asks so I thought maybe it is important enough to be on my page.  Well the month of December was not what I thought it was going to be.  This so called “Morning Sickness” came upon very rudely.  And I don’t think that it is fair that no one warned me that this morning sickness can last all day and all night.  Well, that is what happened to me!  So I basically stayed on the couch and ate crackers and soup, felt exhauseted even though I hadn’t done anything, and tried not to vomit.  All of a sudden Christmas crept up on me and I had’t done any shopping.  Good thing that Kelly had all the motivation and ideas this year – I had none.  But we survived.  Christmas I was a bit of a bore – I still didn’t feel well but it was so fun to hang out with everyone.

So, now it is January.  Since christmas I have begun to feel better.  I have more periods in the day where I feel good, and less and shorter periods of nausea.  I have discovered though that I need a lot of sleep and rest or I get run down and nauseated – which is difficult when I work nights.  So right now I am so-so, but happy and excited.

An extra heartbeat January 13, 2006

As you may have heard Kelly and I were at the doctor’s office on Tuesday for the baby’s monthly check up.  Well it was very exciting – we got to hear the baby’s heart beating.  It made things so much more real. 

Another event on tuesday was much more sad.  I took out my belly ring.  I have had it for over 10 years – now I don’t even recognize my stomach!!!  O-well, it will be worth it.

Telling Kelly . . . January 11, 2006

So, as you read Kelly was at work while I took the tests.  So after seeing the doctor and a quick visit at Tracey and Richard’s I headed off to meet Kelly.  But I just couldn’t tell him at work.  I was worried he would stand there in some daze and I don’t know cut off his hand or something.  So, I whined a little and convinced him to come home early.  I wrapped a book that I had bought for him earlier and when he came home he finally found the gift and I said he could open it.  So he did.  He found a book called: “So You Are Going to be a DAD. . .”  He figured it out right away and he didn’t faint or anything!  He was really happy too.

Frist Finding out . . . . January 11, 2006

Kelly and I found out on November 26th that I am pregnant.  I didn’t really think that I was – it seemed too soon.  But a coworker was convinced that I was.  After speaking with her I waited a few weeks then decided to take “The TEST”.  It was positive . . . twice.  So I drove to the city to a medi clinic to have it confirmed a third time.  Kelly was at work all this time and Tracey was sleeping.  So I was freaking out all by myself!!
